Weaviate is an open-source vector database built for semantic search and retrieval-augmented generation. It stores embeddings alongside structured metadata, supports hybrid keyword plus vector search, and integrates with OpenAI, Cohere, Hugging Face and other model providers so text, images and documents can be indexed automatically. Teams run it self-hosted or on Weaviate Cloud to power chatbots that cite internal knowledge, product search, recommendations and multimodal retrieval at scale, with filtering, multi-tenancy and replication built in.
